24 Sep Tips for Video Interviews
A job video interview is not always easy but you can learn how to succeed by watching this video (9:50).
Tips for Candidates
SET YOUR BACKGROUND
- Make it professional
- Avoid a cluttered environment and distractions
- Use a virtual background if needed
MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT
- Look at the camera when you are speaking, not at the interviewer’s face on the screen to emulate a face to face interaction
LOOK AT YOUR POSTURE
- Make sure you have your shoulders back and your face is entirely visible
- Don’t be too close to the webcam
- Be engaged and smile
USE THE RIGHT DEVICE
- Use a computer or a laptop rather than a smartphone
- On the desktop view, you are in the centre of the screen and you can better see all the interviewers as well
PRACTICE
- Practising will make you feel more comfortable with this new way of making an interview using digital platforms.
Tips for Hiring Managers
- Remember to engage the candidate and do small talks before starting the interview, to make it more natural
- Make sure all the devices work, that everyone can see and hear each other
- Make sure you have the candidate’s phone number

Posted at 12:05h, 29 SeptemberHi Helen and Rachael, I hope you are both as well as you appeared on the video – it is great to see you both well and smiling, This video is excellent! Wonderful! Informative. Entertaining and greatly appreciated.. It is my view that thankfully the number of coronavirus cases are falling and the curfew also thankfully has been lifted one of the best things we can all continue to do for each other is to reach out and support each other. This is one of the best things about this video. It made my day the fact that you have reached out to your people (clients and candidates) and that is really important and I am sure I am not he only one to appreciate it. I think the tips and advice you gave is also very relevant and as many of us have done some of these chats / interviews on line it is super important to be reminded of the basics. I must admit I did fall for the trick Helen played with the background and I thought “Wow Helen has another job as an interior designer!”. One minor thing I think may be worth considering is adding Rachael s name to the screen just as Helen’s was.I do not know how to do this but iI think it is worth considering. i would like to strongly encourage you to continue to do these short videos as I found this one very worthwhile Thank you and apologies for the War and Peace size email. I do talk too much!!! Stay well and take care. Zisis POUROS
